Should A Manager With Knowledge Make The Right Management Presenter?

It is an undisputed fact that managers have a very pivotal role in the organizations they lead. To oversee that the resources of a particular company are utilized to the maximum; to ensure that the junior employees are well-led and controlled is not an easy task. They are the executives who oversee the running of the various departments. But this is the point where their mandate mostly ends. They do not make the best management speakers for these reasons.

Getting a message to a group of people through public speaking requires someone who is a born speaker. That it can be learned and perfected is not in doubt. Unless a manager has it as an inherent gift, he stands no chance of influencing his listeners. An employee may start from the lower rungs of an organization and get promoted later to an executive. He might not have had a chance to hone his leadership skills through his career to allow him deliver a talk.

This kind of speaking requires a management speaker to be well versed in management practices that are applicable in a given field. If he has been a leader in a company that is forever in a downward tumble, the audience may have misgivings on his ability to deliver the best ideas. If he cannot do it in his own company, it would be hard to expect others to listen to his ideas. This brings about the issue of preaching water and drinking wine.

Another reason that strengthens the fact that they make bad management speakers is the fact that their input in the successes of their mother organizations is attributed to a number of individuals. The junior managers and supervisors are among the people who influence key decisions in the company. Their boss, therefore, would be hard placed to come up solo with any notable speech in front of a management audience.

Granted, quite a good number of directors like to bark orders to their juniors. It would be hard to tame such a person to the level of bringing him to use friendlier tones when speaking to a forum. Management talks require a person who comes down to the level of the attendees, listens to them and answers all their questions.

Another reason that makes these people less efficient in speaking is their total reliance on assistants. He may have gone to the best management schools but you still find that they cannot even manage themselves. They have to totally rely on assistants to plan their diary. Add to the fact that other junior supervisors are the ones who run most of the daily affairs of the company and it becomes clear that the boss is the wrong person to deliver any talk.

In the current world, it is common thing for a person with different education credentials than those of director to get hired to run an organization as a manager. The audience may feel short-changed and would feel denied a chance to get real leadership talk.

Granted, managers are not the most observant of people. Knowing what a particular audience wants requires that a person gets down to their level through talking to them, asking them questions like how they would love the seminar conducted. Real management speakers are known to drop to these lows.
