Today, there are almost as many types of stationery available as there are unique uses for them. Paper production is no longer limited to cotton and wood fiber combinations. Origami hobbyists use colorful paper to fold their delicate creations. Photo enthusiasts sometimes use a sheet of stationery to add some personality to their framed photography projects. Here are some examples of stationery types as well as different ways people use them to make a statement.

PARCHMENT

Parchment is most often used for hand-written letters, especially letters written in calligraphy style. To enhance the effect, several colors and weights are available. True parchment was originally made from sheep skins or calf skins. Today there are several types available including some made from vegetable leaves. Diplomas, award certificates and wedding invitations are often printed on this elegant paper.

100% COTTON OR LINEN

This paper is made using cotton fabric pieces. It is highly durable and will last for many years. This stationery is perfect for wedding announcements, thank you cards, invitations, important documents and communications of historic importance. It is very expensive, so most businesses do not use this stationery type for everyday purposes.

BOND

Formed by laying thin sheets of paper on top of each other, bond paper is literally bonded together until the desired thickness is achieved. It has a slightly textured look and feel and you can see a woven pattern on the surface. Business communications and forms are what this type of paper is generally used for as this is an economical way to show quality and elegance to customers and clients.

VELLUM

Vellum is a very thin, opaque version of parchment. Vellum is normally used for making a carbon copy of a correspondence; however, it can be used as tracing paper or as a protective sheet between other printed materials. Vellum has been used by home bakers to separate layers of baked goods when shipping cookies or crackers. It also works well as a type of transfer paper with computer generated designs or a hand drawn design done with a transfer pencil. This technique is used to create T-Shirt transfers and embroidery transfer patterns.

DESIGNER AND GIFT STATIONERY

These stationery types cover a wide variety of topics including letterhead and envelopes with raised and embossed fonts. Choosing a unique color or background design to fit your personality, or that of a friend, is easy and fun. Post cards, note cards and letter writing stock are all plentiful.

Regardless of the types of stationery you're looking for to write letters or you're looking for unique gift wrap, you'll be able to find exactly what you're looking for with the amazing selection of stationery that's available today.
